𝐷𝑒𝑎𝑟 𝐻𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑎 𝐺𝑒𝑟𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑛𝑦,
I've noticed you reposted the job opening for a Data Science role in your team one more time and thought it might be useful for you to hear the perspective of someone, who helped 12 people to get hired in 2023-2024, known as "the worst time to look for a new job".
Absolutely every job seeker learns one thing at some point: how to use the "past 24 hours" filter on the most popular job boards, because speed is everything. This is why you get a storm of very generic CVs and Cover Letters clearly crafted by ChatGPT during the first day after posting your job ad. It is getting worse: many out of a few candidates you selected for an interview are dropping out of the process themselves, sending you a very cold note that they found a better fit somewhere else.
Speed is everything for you too: while it took you weeks to select candidates for the interview and now your team struggles to find volunteers to host 5-6 interview rounds you agreed upon, competitors somehow managed to reduce the number of rounds and your favourite candidate is signing the offer with them. And here is the thing: Data Scientists can work remotely and in any domain. So every company in EMEA is your competitor, when it comes to hiring a Data Scientist
Please, before reposting your job ad once again, ask yourself: which tasks we have and which skills we actually need? What would be the shortest path to check these skills? Are we sure we need our AI Engineer to know all ways to overcome overfitting in BDTs, if we primarily hire her to work with LLMs via API? And another very important question: are we ready to pay the current market salary? For your convenience, the plot with the average market salary for Data Scientist in Germany depending on years of experience is attached (source: kununu).
Good luck with filling the open position(s)!
Sincerely,
Anastasia
P.S women with 10+ years experience, please stop underestimating yourself!
