How did I create AI Assistant

ree

I provide 1:1 mentorship in Data and already 18 months run my own website. In meanwhile I put a lot information on the website about the services I provide. However most of my potential clients don't have time to scroll the website. And I don't have time to answer all questions in a chat in timely manner... Since I promote using AI for automatization, I didn't have to think twice what do I need to do to solve this problem. A good old chatbot! And these days it's extremely easy to set-up a bot, even if you have 0 programming skills. All what you need is ChatGPT Plus subscription ($20/month)

I have a Plus subscription, what is next?

To get started, go to:

Click "+Create" button in the top right corner:

It will lead you to the set-up screen with 2 options

"Configure", where you set everything yourself

"Create", where you can define your bot by chatting with the ChatPGT.

Let's first look at "Create"

ree

You can start by describing what your bot will be used for. Once that’s done, you’ll move into an interactive chat where you’ll define the bot’s name and choose an image. ChatGPT can generate an image for you or you can upload your own.

Let me give you an example. I’m setting up a bot for Etsy.com, an online marketplace for buying and selling handmade goods. My first prompt was like this:

I would like to create a chat-bot for my website, which will answer the questions potential customer could have. Here is the address: https://www.etsy.com/

Keep in mind that the information you provide in the initial prompt likely won’t be enough for your bot to handle all questions about your business. That’s why you can upload a document with additional details, such as an FAQ. Just create a Word file with the content you'd like the bot to use and ask ChatGPT to include it in the bot’s knowledge base:

Now, switch to the "Configure" panel. Here, you’ll find all the key settings that define your bot: its name, description, and instructions (the main prompt). You’ll also see the conversation starters (example prompts suggested to users), as well as any documents you've uploaded for the bot to use as a knowledge source. Finally, you can review and adjust the bot’s capabilities, such as web browsing, image generation, and more.

ree

Your chatbot likely won’t need all available capabilities, so you can safely disable most of them, just make sure to keep "Web Search" enabled.

Why is Web Search important? If your AI Assistant is meant to support a website (which you'll mention in the main prompt under Instructions), enabling this feature allows the bot to pull relevant information directly from the site. It can then include helpful links to specific pages in its responses, making the experience more useful for your users.

One of the great features of the setup process is the "Preview" panel on the right. It lets you test your bot in real time by asking questions. Use this space to fine-tune your bot’s behavior: adjust the main prompt (Instructions) or update the documents you've added as knowledge sources until you're happy with the responses.

Happy with how your bot is performing? Then it's time to share it with the world!

Click the "Create" button in the top right corner. You’ll be asked whether you want to keep the bot private (Only me), share it via a link, or publish it in the GPT Store.

If your AI Assistant is intended for public use, I recommend choosing "GPT Store" to make it easily accessible to a wider audience.

Click "Save" and a few minutes later your bot is ready to be used. Mail the link to your friends, add a button on your website or find more creative ways to share it. Feel free to share link to your bot in the comments below!
